Your first few weeks with your new system
A short checklist after installation: your handover pack, your app, export payments, your insurer and your tariff.
Welcome, and thank you for choosing REST UK. Your system looks after itself, but a few things in the first weeks will help you get the most from it.
Your checklist
- Find your handover pack. We email you a link to a page on handover.rest-uk.com with all your certificates, manuals and warranty documents. Documents are added as they arrive, and the link doesn't expire. See Where are my certificates?.
- Log in to your app. It shows what your system is making and using. See Understanding the numbers in your app.
- Apply for export payments as soon as your MCS certificate arrives. They aren't automatic or backdated. See The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).
- Tell your home insurer you have solar panels, and a battery if you have one.
- Think about your tariff. If you have a battery, a cheap overnight tariff can make a big difference in winter. See Battery Optimisation Guide: Charging on Off-Peak Tariffs.
- Keep your HIES email. HIES, our consumer code, emails you your deposit protection and guarantee documents. It's genuine: keep it with your handover pack.
What's normal in the first weeks
- Generation goes up and down with the weather and the seasons. December can be around a fifth of June.
- Your battery stops at a minimum level, usually around 10% to 20%. See Why does my battery stop at 10%?.
- A Tesla Powerwall in Savings mode takes about a week to learn your patterns.
Good to know
- Please don't open the inverter or battery, or go on the roof.
- If you ever need your system switched off, see System Shutdown Procedure.
