Where are my certificates?
Where to find your MCS certificate, electrical certificate, DNO notification and manuals, and when each one arrives.
All the paperwork for your installation is kept in one place: your handover pack. After your installation we email you a link to it. It's a page on handover.rest-uk.com, and it doesn't expire, so you can keep coming back to it.
What's in your handover pack
| Document | What it's for |

| MCS certificate | Shows your system was installed by a certified installer to the MCS standard. You need it to apply for the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) and it's useful when you sell your home. |
| Electrical Installation Certificate | Shows the electrical work was tested and is safe. |
| DNO notification or approval | Confirms your local network operator (the company that runs the power lines in your area) has been told about your system, or approved it. Smaller systems use a G98 notification. Larger systems need G99 approval before they are installed. |
| Schematic diagram | Shows how your system is wired and connected. Some energy suppliers ask for this when you apply for the Smart Export Guarantee. |
| Building Regulations Compliance Certificate | See Building regulations below. |
| Details of your system | Such as the panels, inverter and battery fitted. |
| Manuals and warranty documents | For your equipment. |
When each one arrives
Some documents are ready on the day, and some take longer:
- Your electrical certificate and equipment details are usually there when you first get the link.
- Your MCS certificate is usually added within a couple of weeks of your installation.
- For a G98 system, we notify your network operator within 28 days of your installation. The notification is added once it's done. For a G99 system, we apply before installing and send the final documents afterwards.
Building regulations
Solar and battery installations are notifiable electrical work. We register the work through our competent person scheme, which tells your local council for you. Your Building Regulations Compliance Certificate is sent to you digitally, by email, along with your other documents. Keep a copy with your other house documents, as you'll need it if you sell your home.
Lost your MCS certificate?
It's always in your handover pack, so start there, or ask us and we'll send it again. MCS doesn't have a public search for certificates, but if you ever need to confirm one exists (for example, if you've bought a home with solar already fitted), MCS's helpdesk can check it on 0333 103 8130.
