Having work done on your roof or electrics
Re-roofing, scaffolding, a new consumer unit or a meter change? What to tell us, and what other trades must not do.
If you're having building, roofing or electrical work done, please let us know before it starts. A little planning keeps your system safe, your warranties intact and your monitoring working.
Roof work
If panels need to come off for re-roofing or repairs, contact us as early as you can and we’ll talk you through the options.
Electrical work
Tell your electrician about your solar and battery before they start. Afterwards, check:
- your app still shows sensible figures (try the kettle test in My battery or app went wrong after a smart meter was fitted),
- the switches for your solar and battery are back on, and
- nothing is showing an alarm.
Work on your consumer unit, a new EV charger or a rewire can move the sensor your battery relies on, or leave a switch off.
A new smart meter
The meter engineer may switch your solar off and move the cables near your meter. Afterwards, check your app and your switches as above. If your system says No AC connection or Grid lost, see My inverter says "No AC connection" or "Grid lost".
Scaffolding and building work
Scaffolding against the house can shade your panels and lower your generation for a while. That's normal. Ask builders to keep clear of the panels, cables and the equipment on your wall.
If anything gets damaged, leave it as it is and contact us.
