My inverter says "No AC connection" or "Grid lost"
Your inverter can't see the mains, so it has stopped. Usually a switch has been turned off or a breaker has tripped. Safe checks to make.
This message means your inverter can't see a healthy mains supply, so it has stopped producing. You'll usually see no solar in the app, and often no battery either. Most of the time a switch has been turned off or a breaker has tripped, and it's quick to put right.
What it says on each make
| Make | What you'll see |
|---|---|
| Growatt | No AC Connection on the screen, or AC voltage out of range |
| Fox ESS | A Grid Lost alarm on the screen and in FoxCloud, with solar at zero |
| Duracell Energy | A grid-lost or grid fault on the Dura-i, with no solar in the app |
| Tesla Powerwall | A grid outage in the Tesla app |
Check, in this order
- Is the power on in the house? If your whole house, and your neighbours, have no power, it's a power cut. Report it on 105. Your system restarts by itself when the power comes back.
- Check your consumer unit (fuse box). Look for a switch that's down or in the middle, especially one labelled Solar, PV, Inverter or Battery, and any RCD. You can put it back up once. If it trips again straight away, leave it off and contact us.
- Check the AC isolator. This is the switch on the wall by the inverter (often red and yellow, or grey). Some homes have a second one near the meter. Make sure it's ON.
- Wait about 5 minutes. Every inverter checks the grid is stable before it reconnects, so it won't come back instantly.
- Check the screen or app shows solar again (in daylight) and no fault.
Good to know
- Tesla Powerwall: the breakers may be inside the Backup Gateway rather than your consumer unit, and a Powerwall 3 has its own switch on the side. With a Backup Gateway, your house may still have power from the Powerwall during a power cut.
- Fox ESS and Duracell Energy with backup: your backed-up circuits may stay on in a power cut while the rest of the house is off. That's normal. See Will my Fox ESS battery work in a power cut? or Will my Duracell battery work in a power cut?.
