Solar Panel Maintenance & Cleaning FAQs
Your new solar PV system requires very little day-to-day management. Because your installation features premium Eurener panels—manufactured to exact standards in Europe—you benefit from highly durable, top-tier components designed for longevity and optimal performance in the UK climate.
Here are the answers to the most common questions regarding the upkeep of your system.
Do my solar panels need regular cleaning?
In the UK, our regular rainfall does an excellent job of washing away everyday dust, bird droppings, and debris. Furthermore, your Eurener panels are fitted with high-quality, self-cleaning, anti-reflective glass. This specialised coating actively minimises the build-up of grime, meaning manual cleaning is rarely required on a day-to-day basis.
How often should I have them professionally cleaned?
While the rain does most of the heavy lifting, we generally recommend a professional clean every 2 to 3 years to ensure your system continues to generate at maximum efficiency. However, if you live in a coastal area (where salt spray is common), next to a busy main road, or in a heavily wooded area, you may benefit from having them inspected and cleaned annually. These services are offered by most reputable window cleaning companies.
Can I clean the panels myself?
For safety reasons, we strongly advise against climbing onto your roof to clean the panels.
If your panels are safely accessible from the ground (for example, on a flat roof or a low, single-storey extension), you can gently rinse them using a standard garden hose. Never use a pressure washer, abrasive sponges, or harsh chemical detergents. Doing so can strip the protective anti-reflective coating from your Eurener panels and may void your manufacturer's warranty.
What should I do about snow, ice, or fallen leaves?
Eurener's robust, European-manufactured aluminium frames are rigorously tested to withstand heavy snow loads and severe weather.
-
Snow and Ice: As the panels absorb ambient light, they naturally warm up, causing snow and ice to melt and slide off the slick glass surface. There is no need to manually scrape them.
-
Leaves: If you notice a heavy accumulation of leaves pooling around the edges of the panels or underneath the mounting rails, it is best to hire a professional solar cleaner or roof specialist to safely clear the debris and prevent damp build-up.
Do the panels require any other physical maintenance?
Solar PV systems have no moving parts, making them incredibly low maintenance. Your premium Eurener system has undergone stringent quality control during its European manufacturing process to ensure decades of reliability.
The best way to "maintain" your system is simply to monitor your generation via your mobile app. If you notice a sudden, unexplained drop in your solar generation, please leave the system as it is and contact our support team for advice.
