Reconnecting your Tesla Powerwall to Wi-Fi
How to get your Powerwall back online in the Tesla app after a router or Wi-Fi password change.
Your Powerwall needs the internet so you can see it in the Tesla app and so it can receive software updates. If you change your router or Wi-Fi password, it may show as offline.
Before you start
- Have your Wi-Fi name and password ready.
- Make sure you're logged into the Tesla app on the account linked to your Powerwall.
- Stand near your Powerwall equipment with your phone.
- Tesla says you need at least two bars of Wi-Fi signal near the Gateway.
Reconnecting
The steps depend on which Powerwall you have. The Tesla app guides you through it.
- Open the Tesla app and go to your home energy site.
- If it shows Device Offline, tap it and follow the on-screen steps. Powerwall 3 pairs with your phone by Bluetooth.
- On older Powerwall systems, look for Configure Wi-Fi in the site settings and follow the prompts.
- If your Powerwall is still online through mobile data or a cable, you can use Network Setup to choose your new Wi-Fi.
- Pick your home Wi-Fi, enter the password and tap Connect. This can take a few minutes.
Some older Gateways only work with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so pick that network if you have a choice.
Things to avoid
- Wi-Fi networks that need a login web page, like some hotel-style setups, won't work.
- If your signal is weak, a Wi-Fi extender can help.
Data can take up to a day to sync after reconnecting.
