Taking an export meter reading
Where to find the export reading on your smart meter, for your export supplier or a final reading when you move.
Your export supplier may ask for an export reading when your tariff starts, or when you move house. Your smart meter records it, but the in-home display usually doesn't show it: you read it on the meter itself.
Find your meter's make
The make is printed on the front of the meter, usually near the top. Then follow the steps for it below. If yours isn't here, your energy supplier's website or your meter's guide will show the buttons to press.

Good to know
- Give whole numbers only, ignoring anything after a decimal point.
- Export readings only go up, and only by what you've sent to the grid. On short winter days they may hardly move.
- If your meter has stopped sending readings to your supplier, contact your electricity supplier: they look after the meter, not us.
